Our relationship with captialism

Frolic Culture recognizes the deeply ingrained and systemic inequalities present within the racialized capitalist system, which disproportionately impact intentionally marginalized communities, including Black, Brown, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and poor folks, especially when compounded with multiple intersecting identities. As a result, our relationship with capitalism is nuanced, complicated, and an ongoing struggle.

As we strive to create a world that seeks to prioritize rest, play, and community, we acknowledge the challenges that come with charging individuals, particularly Black people, to participate in our experiences. We understand that the world has intentionally and systematically prevented marginalized communities from accessing spaces of joy and leisure, which makes it even more difficult for us to charge for our services.

Despite these challenges, we remain committed to building a business model that aligns with our anti-capitalist values while also recognizing the need to generate revenue to cover expenses. We work creatively to find ways to fund our programs, often relying on our own personal resources and product sales to support our vision.

As we navigate the complexities of capitalism, we remain dedicated to sustaining and growing our experiences while minimizing the financial burden on our community members. We invite our community to join us in this ongoing struggle and help us find better ways to create spaces of Frolic that are accessible to all.
